Advanced Placement (AP) Program

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) PROGRAM

Advanced Placement (AP) is a cooperative educational endeavor between secondary school, colleges and universities in place since 1955 in which high school students take college-level courses in a high school setting.  AP is a rigorous academic program where students develop and apply the skills, abilities and content knowledge they will need later in college.  Modeled upon comparable college courses, AP requires commitment, passion and hard work from students.  Each course culminates in a college-level assessment AP exam in which students demonstrate their mastery of college-level course work.  Almost all colleges and universities reward strong performances by granting students credit, placement or both.  At Franklin Towne, students taking AP courses may participate in the AP exam administered in May.
