Pre-Season Preparation and Exercise
Start preparing now. Make sure that you warm up, cool down, stretch, and drink plenty of water before and after each workout.
By the start of tryouts, players should be able to:
-
- Jog 2 miles without stopping.
-
- Run 1 mile in less than 8:30.
-
- Complete basic soccer skills – shooting, passing, trapping, juggling, etc.
Players should complete distance runs, sprints, and strength training to be physically prepared to play at the varsity level.

Tryouts
When: Week of August 15, 2022
Where: American Legion (6201 Torresdale Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19135)
What to Bring:

Water

Spikes
-
Shin Guards / Soccer Socks

Running Shoes
-
Any needed medication (inhaler, EpiPen, etc)
To tryout you must have PIAA forms (Including Physical) completed.

- Your physical must contain the physician’s signature & professional stamp.

- Your physical must be completed and dated after JUNE 1, 2022. Any physical completed before this date will be considered invalid
Players without their PIAA forms will not be allowed to tryout.
Players will be evaluated using the following criteria during tryouts:
Technical: 
-
Dribbling - maintain control of the ball in various spaces
-
Passing - move the ball between teammates in various methods, i.e. short, medium, long, ground and/or in the air. 
-
Receiving - control the ball from a pass or out of the air
-
1v1 Defending - defend individually by pressuring the ball 
-
1V1 attacking - beat defenders using directional changes, speed changes, and creativity
Tactical:
-
In attack, make the correct decision while in possession of the ball to best exploit space. The ability to time movement while teammates are in possession. 
-
In defense, make the decision to either pressure, cover, or be a balancing player. The ability to show patience and tenacity as necessary. 
Physical:
-
Strength - physical ability to win tackles, shield the ball, maintain balance under pressure 
-
Speed - using top speed to escape defenders or put pressure on attackers, the ability to change speed as necessary
-
Endurance – ability to maintain cardio throughout the duration of an 80-minute game
Mental:
-
Respect the rules of the game, opponents, teammates, coaches, referees
-
Coachability - willingness to accept instruction, focus on the task at hand
-
Tenacity/work rate - working hard and putting forth the best effort possible
-
Accountability - willingness to accept blame for mistakes, willingness to address mistakes in others in a positive and respectful manner.
Players who make the team agree to:

Be an exemplar FTC student

Follow the school handbook
-
Maintain above average grades in all classes
-
Attend all practices and games
-
All appointments should be scheduled for the weekend

Your work schedule should be built around games and practices

Students will be expected to find their own transportation to practice (Walking in groups to field, SEPTA, or carpool)

Students must communicate any conflicting issues with practice or games with Coach Ounan ahead of time

Good academic standing & consistent attendance at school

Have transportation to all home & away games.

Athletic Fee
To play a sport at FTCHS there is an Athletic Fee that is paid once per year. This fee goes towards PIAA and District XII league fees, officials' fees, transportation, uniforms and equipment for our teams. Athletic Fee may be paid to the Booster Club via monthly meetings.
