Cross Country

Attention All Cross Country Athletes: The team picture will be taken on Tuesday, 10/30/18, at the Parade Grounds at 3:30 PM. All athletes must wear their Sweatpants and Hoodies/Team Issued Jacket to take part in the team picture.
All cross country uniforms will be collected on Thursday, 11/1/18 at the conclusion of exams in Mr. Cummings' room (244). All uniforms must be washed.

2018 Important XC Information

  • The 2018 Cross Country season begins on Monday, 8/13/18. By this date, all athletes must have a completed PIAA Packet including a physical dated after 6/1/18. IMPORTANT:Athletes who do not have this paperwork completed will not be allowed to compete on the team.
  • All athletes/parents should sign up immediately for the remind app to receive text message alerts about important information regarding workout programs and voluntary workouts. CLICK THIS LINK:
  • A summer running program will be published on the XC website and available outside of Mr. Cummings' room to help ensure that athletes adequately prepare for the upcoming season. This program will begin on Monday, 6/18/18 and will continue throughout the summer. Athletes should do their best to follow this program. Athletes must come into the season being able to meet the following minimum requirements.
  • Boys: Be able to run a Sub 14:55 2 mile
  • Girls: Be able to run a Sub 19:00 2 mile
  • If athletes follow the running program, they should easily meet the previously mentioned standards.
  • Invitational Meets: Participation in invitational meets is dependent upon athletes following their summer running program.
  • START RUNNING NOW: All athletes who finished their track season should get in 30-45 minutes of EASY running in 3-4 days a week in order to maintain aerobic fitness.

Important Information for Practice Schedule:There is no practice on Monday, 9/4/17. Practice will resume on Tuesday, 9/5/17. Due to uniform distribution practice on Tuesday will be from 3:30-6:00 PM.

Athletic Fee: Athletes are reminded that they must have their athletic fee to turn in to Mr. Parcells on Tuesday, 9/5/17. Athletes will not receive a uniform/participate in meets until they pay their athletic fee.

Mandatory Practices
Mandatory practices for Cross Country will begin on Monday, 8/14/17. Practices will be from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Parade Grounds located in the Frankford Arsenal and will take place Monday - Friday.

Recommended Workouts
Attention all XC Athletes/Prospective Athletes, Mr. Cummings has uploaded the suggested workout plans to the team website. They are broken down into three categories:
Gold - Meant for Top Returning Athletes
Silver - Meant for Most Returning Athletes
Bronze - All new athletes who are new to running and the sport of Cross Country.

If any athlete is unsure about which program to follow, please feel free to email Coach Cummings and he will point you in the right direction.

2017 XC Important Information

  • IMPORTANT: In order to be able to attend invitational meets, all athletes must attend ATLEAST ONE FTC Booster Fundraising event in the fall in order to go to invitational meets.
  • You should be following the suggested summer program (gold, silver, bronze) over the course of the summer if you want to have a truly successful season in the fall.
    • Please download the VDOT Running Calculator. Before 6/12/17, run two miles as fast as you can and time yourself. Input your time into the calculator to find your most up to date VO2 suggested paces.
  • You must sign up with the FTC XC Remind Group ASAP.
  • The first day of mandatory practices is Monday, 8/14/17.
  • You must have your completed PIAA Form including a physical dated after 6/9/17.
  • Cummings will meet athletes for voluntary practices over the course of the summer. He will post these dates using both the Remind Group and the FTC XC Website.

Athletic Fee:

The $300 athletic fee for XC is due by Tuesday, 9/6/16. Any athletes who would like to sell 50/50 chances to help pay for their athletic fee should see Mr. Cummings for raffle tickets.

Pancake Breakfast:

The FTC Booster Club is hosting their 6th Annual Pancake Breakfast from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM this Saturday, 9/10/16 at Building 12 (right next to the Parade Grounds in the Arsenal Complex). All members of the XC team should attend this event and it is open to all family members.
Tickets are $5.00 for Adults/ $3.00 for 13 - 4 year old and FREE for under 3.

Practice for Wednesday, 9/7/16 will be from 3:30 - 6:00 PM

Due to the fact that Mr. Cummings has to distribute uniforms on Wednesday, 9/7/16 practice will be from 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM, with uniform distribution occuring in Mr. Cummings' room (211) from 3:30 - 4:00 PM.


Today's Philadelphia Public League Meet at Belmont Plateau has been cancelled. Instead, the team will compete in a 5k Race located to the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility and Riverview Homes located by the intersection of State Road and Rhawn Street starting at 3:30 PM. TIME FRAME: This meet should run the same time as a regular meet at Belmont. With students who are taking the bus both ways being back at FTC by around 5:30-6:00ish.

To play a sport at FTCHS there is a $300 Athletic Fee that is paid once per year. This fee goes towards PIAA and District XII league fees, officials' fees, transportation, uniforms and equipment for our teams. Athletic Fee may be paid to the Booster Club via monthly meetings, the first Monday of every month.
