Teacher Page

Hello and welcome to Ms. McClain's Edlio Page.  Below is a bit of information about me as well as information regarding where you can find needed information regarding my classes:
This year I will be teaching Biology in room 448.  It is my 8th year teaching overall and my 5th year at FTCHS.  In Edlio you can find basic course information as well as the syllabus for each class I teach.  However, for up to date information on coursework and student grades please access MS365 group for you class and check Infinite Campus.
Educational Background:  I graduated in 2010 from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  I then became a 2010 Teach for America Corps member where I began teaching in Philadelphia Schools and earned my teaching certification at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.  Last summer I completed my M.S. of Science Education from Montana State University.

Biology is the study of organisms (living things) and what defines life. This class will cover many topics including: Biology as a science; Cells – their organization, energy production/use, and ability to reproduce; Evolutionary Topics – classification, genetics, populations; and Living things – their structure and function. Students will be required to read, take notes, and complete assignments in class as well as at home. Projects and papers will be assigned throughout the year and will be completed independently. Quizzes and tests will be given to reinforce lessons, measure understanding, and prepare for tests. The syllabus is attached.
