Anatomy and Physiology: Anatomy is the study of the structures found in living organisms while physiology studies the function of these structures. This course explores the structure and function of the human body at multiple levels: individual cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and finally how those organ systems support one another to maintain the body. During the course of this class we will explore normal structure and function and the effects of disease processes on structure and function as well.
Biology: Biology is the study of organisms (living things) and what defines life. This class will cover many topics including: Biology as a science; Cells – their organization, energy production/use, and ability to reproduce; Evolutionary Topics – classification, genetics, populations; and Living things – their structure and function. Students will be required to read, take notes, and complete assignments in class as well as at home. Projects and papers will be assigned throughout the year and will be completed independently. Quizzes and tests will be given to reinforce lessons, measure understanding, and prepare for tests.
